Personal ethics
Abstract
Personal ethics is the basic values and principles that usually govern how a person interacts with other people (Business, 2015). Personal ethics has from time to time faced various challenges owing to the fact that each and every individual has his or her own personal ethics. This generally makes it hard for a person to incorporate the ethics of other individuals. The major factors that challenge personal ethics include issues surrounding the context, values and principles of a person and the people around him and the ethical system of the society in which a person lives in (Carolyn, 2015).a
How Personal Ethics, Morals, and Values Influence Professional Ethics
The first way in which personal ethics influences professional ethics is the development of preexisting values. A person is usually guided by the personal ethics and the preexisting ethics when he or she is developing his or her professional ethics. This, therefore, means that the professional ethics that a person develops is partly as a result of his or her personal ethics.
Also, personal ethics usually bring ethical dilemmas when it comes to professional ethics at workplaces. This is mostly experienced in situations where the personal ethics of an individual differ from the professional ethics of the company or organization in which he or she works for. This in the event of occurrences has created a lot of ethical dilemmas in the businesses leading to employees being fired or quitting their jobs.
Finally, professional ethics just like personal ethics are continuously evolving. This, therefore, means that there are cases in which a person's personal ethics may evolve from what it was previously and, as a result, affect the current professional ethics. This will mean that new ethical dilemmas will be created every now and again.
Issues Likely To Be Faced As a Counselor in Prison
The first ethical issue likely to be faced being a prison's counselor is differences in ethics of the audience from my ethics. This is a major challenge because what I may consider to be morally right may be morally wrong from a person from a different ethnical background. Also, I am likely to face rejection of counseling by certain prisoners due to racism or age differences. Most people are very choosy in who can and who cannot be there counselors and these can be determined by several factors. Finally, I might also face a challenge owing to language barriers as prisons have all kinds of individuals and from different language groups.
